Don’t you just love it after reading a story when you’re given the chance to catch up with the characters and learn what’s become of them? We’re only one month removed from the trip, but life in Los Angeles is surprisingly lovely. We use the word “surprising” because we were pretty much dreading our return. We were so happy on the road, we never wanted our journey to be over. It turns out that sometimes the greatest gift you can give yourself is low expectations. Here, we have been happily reminded what great friends we have, how nice it is to live with closets instead of suitcases, and — aided by a little time and perspective — Hollywood seems like a fun place to return back to work. (Another great thing about Los Angeles is how many talented people surround us, like our friend Tim Olyphant who lent us his voice for this film, and our friend Jacob Ehrlich who made words magically float in the sky). Our whole family has changed in ways we are discovering each day and we will probably be discovering for years. In the meantime, we will stay in touch. Not as close as before, but when you least suspect it, an email will appear in your inbox and it will be us shouting hello and and sharing a little something we’ve discovered along the road of life.
Lovely. Good to hear from you.
We’ve missed you! Thanks so much for the beautiful update.
You guys are poets. So good to hear re-entry has been smooth. We miss you traveling through the world and being our eyes our there. But it’s comforting to know we might get these updates now and again. A Life To Think… ? We’re in.
We were just talking about you guys and now this arrives. So nice to hear you are doing so well. And the filmmaking is beautiful.
Nice ending to a fairy tale life around the world in 365 days. But, there’s no place like home. . .welcome back.
a life to think! i’m with jason. count me in.
Epilogues are always nice. Thanks for sharing! and happy travels in your day-to-day, too!
Welcome home…see you in a few months
Really would like more updates. Missed my most interesting emails.

Don’t forget to come back to the south of France…..your story makes me want to follow you through to the end of your lives!
You know that English program that has followed a group of children through their lives-every seven years? Well, following you has been a joy – hmmm. Maybe we could start a commune to widen the scope and be less pressure on one family, or maybe you will just do as you said and just surprise us when it strikes you … And just be serendipity !
Keep doing them please. We love them.
I have followed your journey from the start, thinking that my only connection was my daughter, Heidi Ware- who is crazy about your children and a tree house. However, through your travels and stories I have been connected in ways with complete strangers like none other. I have eagerly looked for your new postings, read and reread some, imagined what your experiences were like..tasted that pizza, I swear! I’ve even shared your site with my friends and family. I just want to say a heartfelt thank you and extend continued blessings to your family and friends. It was a joy+++ to be a hitchhiker in your travels! Heather Stacey Ware
A fitting end… and beginning.
I’ve followed you through the year with great pleasure.
Maybe I’ll even get to meet you again someday, Jenn, and your family. I remember you as a little girl with your bright carrot-red, curly hair!

Remember the old Henny Youngman joke: “last year we went around the world. This year we’re thinking about going someplace else.” please take us along!
WOWEE! WOW! WOW!
I think that now that you’re home, in your sanctuary with closets and comfy couches and with chairs you bought and with most things in places familiar and a desk that has a creative patina to it, crowded with toys, where you can plant your butt like a mighty oak and look outside and inside at the same time….and in this place the juices of creativity and grace are flowing warm and sweet from within and without. What is there to say, but WOWEE! WOW! WOW!
I love the introduction of the “narrator”. Damn! Where did that come from? “The Father” “The Mother” “The Son” The Daughter” Now in the Third Person! So much Fun!
And since no one else mentioned it. Are we all aware that we have been introduced to UNDER WATER PHOTOGRAPHY!!! And Finn did his own stunts! I hope you have him under a long term contract! Geez!

#HomeSweetHome…Though I must say that it was easier rendezvousing with you in Paris than here – separated by the dreaded 405. Thanks for the ultimate armchair journey!
I am SO HAPPY for you all the re-entry has not been difficult and surprisingly wonderful. I think that what is so unique about your travels is that so many of your family and friends were able to experience your trip via YOU! In the past when I returned from traveling I found it so hard to share my experiences and feel like they were really being heard and or understood. Especially when it was a diverse cultural experience that one can’t understand unless you experience it first hand. But your posts shared/taught/educated those of us who watched through your eyes. How special for the kids especially that their friends can have some inkling of an idea…very cool. I will really miss being “in touch” …I agree with all of the above posts… A life to think…awesome.. xoxo
Thank you! I felt I was in detox…
Unfortunately your last two postings (including this one) I can see but not hear. I was able to listen and see the previous one in Facebook. Could you post this one in your Flakett-Leving Facebook page? Please, please, please?????
Thanks and I’m glad you are happy back at home.
Love to you all.
Beautiful. I’m glad the dream will continue!
I really like that drawing of your family . . .
Like a great book, I find my self sad to be at the end, already missing the characters, their adventures and their conversations….the opportunity to reflect on things new or foreign to me. I am sure I will think back on each chapter I have read at the oddest of times. I hope there will be a sequel, although I think I might need to reread the book.
Hope to meet you guys in LA.
Best,
Beth
OMG, your epilogue is so sad and funny!
My family and I are planning to leave for our around the world journey in Feb, and our mutual friends Brandon and Wendy told us about your family.
I can’t wait to watch the rest of your journey, albeit backwards. 😉
Thanks for documenting and sharing your families adventure. I’m sure you’ll give us a lot to think about!
May the road rise up to meet you (s) and the wind be always
on your back .
