Due to the way the harbor is situated, Adelaide is one of the few cities in Eastern or Southern Australia that gives you a full-on western sunset. On this particular night, Franny and Finn used the nifty glass-enclosed balcony of our apartment to catch up on schoolwork. Finn is working on his math, while Franny is powering through “Wrinkle In Time” for our family book group. Our first book was “Animal Farm”, our next book is “Flowers For Algernon.” Soon, Franny and Jen will be reading “Memoirs of a Geisha” in anticipation of our time in Kyoto, while Mark and Finn will be sharing “Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman.” Further reading suggestions are always welcome. Please offer any and all Family Book Group ideas below.
Ah…….homework!
In Australia. In Kyoto. Homework around the world.
Homework….far away from home.
The best kind.
AYTT, how do you find these wonderful apartments? Do you have someone working on it for you….making deposits, etc. or are you just scrambling online as you go? Trying to stay one country, one apartment ahead of yourself? This reader is curious.

We are finding apartments on our own as we go. Some of our favorite sites include VRBO, homeaway, airbnb, and ParisPerfect. This particular two-bedroom apartment came complete with washer-dryer and two bathrooms was at the iStayPrecinct in Adelaide. Here’s a preview of our upcoming two bedroom townhouse in Kyoto which comes with bikes for the family: http://www.vrbo.com/125525
Wow! BTW, where will you be in Japan? We have some acquaintances in Shimane prefecture but that’s a bit far from Kyoto.
I think the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a good family book. Also the Bertie and Jeeves stories by P.G. Wodehouse.
love,Wendy
We will be in Japan starting on September 30th. We have three days where we’re still figuring out what to do with before we get to Kyoto on October 7th. Should we consider Shimane? We’re very flexible and love to meet acquaintances. Thanks for the book recommendations. Both of those sound like good read aloud books.

A Wrinkle in TIME!! Does that bring back memories for Jenny ?? get her to sing teh Alarm Clock song for teh family as part of your discussion. I still remember the lyrics if she needs help:)….There’s a rumort that’s been spreading the town…etc.
I have sung the beginning of the song to the kids and they are unimpressed. But I remember you very distinctly — “my parents want to sell it, it’s just a junky relic, but it’s hard to see, why it’s always me… who’s left alone.” Pretty good memory, huh? Hope all is wonderful in Keene. So glad you’re following along.

What a wonderful sunset! Is that East Terrace or Victoria Park. Richard’s father lives in Wattlepark and his house has beautiful sunsets from the hills. Just like this one.
Are you visiting Kangaroo Island or Victor Harbor? My favorite places near by.
Love to follow you around the world. What a great experience!!! lot to hugs, Katherine
