Once we forded the river, we finally found the starting camp for our “Walking Safari.” Months earlier, when we signed up for this Walking Safari, we really didn’t know what the hell we were getting into. We were just following the suggestion of a friend of a friend of an acquaintance. See, for many months now, it had been our general policy to pretty much Say Yes to everything. But once we arrived at our Walking Safari and got a sense of things, that “general policy” came under official review.
Wow. Okay, NOW I’m impressed.
What fun. I love walking.
All respect to you!!
Car scene and spider shot made me laugh! And the clink of the rice spoon so simple and true helped us feel how your family can find itself at home anywhere now. Even in the wilds of Africa. Wonderful.
This was wonderfully said! I couldn’t agree more.
“…that we could”
My favorite lesson, which I enjoy learning over and over again.
Thanks for the reminder.

P.S. The Lurker has now decided that she might be ready to go to Africa.
Hallelujah!
you can do anything.
how else is such a big lesson learned?
how will I teach my own boy such a big lesson?
how will i learn it myself?
Is very easy for the whole planet to live this way. Just stop the electricity!
We love the way you test yourselves … whether you want to or not.
Amazing!!!! This experience will be hard to forget.
Loved it. Hey at least you got a wooden toilet seat! When I went camping as a kid, my dad dug bush toilets, and there was no seat. Ha ha. I loved that shot of your guide pointing out the zebra. Fantastic. xx
You have showed us the world and we have all vicariously traveled through and with you. But it’s the simple things you show us, like Finn taking Franny’s sleeve as they walk, that move me the most. You have given them a relationship that might turn out to be the closest relationship with another human that they may ever have. And, that is worth the price of the ticket.
Thanks for sharing Kenya’s beauty along with your family’s! I hope you got to see Giraffes because they took my breath away…I grieve for Kenya and Zimbabwae and all of the other beautiful African countries that have been destroyed by selfish leaders…it is a heart break and yet the people remain so positive and joyful…we could all learn many lessons from them…xoxo
Well I sure never said to walk – but looks like it was the very best way to really see – smell and feel Africa. I think I will try that next time I’m over there. Hope you had an interesting time there.
Oh and hear Africa !
You’ve lived so much & seen so much. Of course not all of it would be comfortable or easy, but all of it will be memorable…
I would SO be in that car and not getting out.
The closer you get to home the more I admire every step you guys take.
INCREDIBLE doesn’t do it justice.
I ditto all the others… I marvel always at the way you express your feelings and thoughts, not only in pictures but wonderful words and music… you guys are AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for sharing it all! i feel your feelings!
